Storyline

According to production listing, Black Panther 3 has the working title “Shadows of Wakanda” and the synopsis states: “Black Panther 3: Shadows of Wakanda depicts Wakanda’s vulnerability after T’Challa’s death, with Shuri stepping up as both warrior and leader.” However, this could be misleading from Marvel Studios because we know a new Black Panther is coming.

Black Panther 3 will be one of the first films to kick off the Mutant Saga, the next chapter of the MCU. According to insiders, the new T’Challa will first appear in Avengers Doomsday, not just in Secret Wars as previously thought. Marvel Studios has essentially flipped the switch after saying they wouldn’t recast T’Challa.

Initially, Marvel was going to do a hybrid recast with T’Challa. At the end of Black Panther Wakanda Forever, in the post-credit scene, we were introduced to T’Challa’s son. So it looked like Marvel’s plan was to bring T’Challa back as Black Panther by using his son, naming him T’Challa too, and making him the new Black Panther going forward.

However, over the past year we’ve been hearing reports that Marvel Studios has actually changed their mind and they’re actually going to recast T’Challa. A huge movement came forward when they made the decision not to recast T’Challa – a real “Recast T’Challa” movement. When that came forward, Marvel Studios heard them and realized how important he is as the actual character.

Cast & Characters

Black Panther 3 will feature Shuri continuing as Black Panther, with Letitia Wright reprising her role. The biggest news is the new T’Challa Black Panther who will appear first in Avengers Doomsday. Damson Idris has been heavily mentioned for our new Black Panther. According to reports, he’s met with Marvel Studios and has said quite a bit about it.

He was spotted at an event, a runway show, with the Black Panther cast – with Angela Bassett (Queen Ramonda), Danai Gurira (Okoye), and Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia). Everyone is saying “Okay, I feel like he’s truly our new Black Panther.” We’re not certain yet, but it seems likely.

Denzel Washington has confirmed he will be in Black Panther 3, which he mentioned while talking about films he was making before retirement. He later apologized to Ryan Coogler for the reveal, but then eventually Ryan Coogler came forward and everyone confirmed it.

The film will also feature various characters from Wakanda including the Dora Milaje warriors. According to what we’ve heard, Wakanda is going to play a huge role in Avengers Doomsday, and it’s actually Shuri who’s going to detect the incursion or detect the immediate threat in the 616 universe.

Direction & Cinematography

Ryan Coogler returns to direct Black Panther 3, bringing his signature vision back to Wakanda. Coogler has been working on this project and his direction will be crucial for introducing the new T’Challa into the MCU. The working title “Shadows of Wakanda” suggests a darker, more intense tone for the film.

The cinematography is expected to showcase Wakanda in new ways, especially since leaked concept art from Secret Wars shows Wakanda in the background with a new Black Panther. This suggests Wakanda is going to play a big role in Avengers Secret Wars as well.

On Battle World in the comics Secret Wars, there are many different territories. Battle World is constructed from over 40 different universes and they have different territories. It seems that’s what’s going to happen for this Battle World too, and one of these territories, one of these domains, is going to be Wakanda.

The visual style will likely continue the Afrofuturistic aesthetic that made the first two films so distinctive, while incorporating new elements from the multiverse storyline.

  • Long wait for production start (June 2026)

  • Could be confusing with multiple Black Panthers

Box Office Collection / Budget

Black Panther 3 budget and box office collection details are not yet available since the film is still in pre-production stage. Shooting is expected to start on June 15, 2026, which means the film will release after Avengers: Secret Wars.

For reference, Black Panther (2018) had a budget of $200 million and earned over $1.3 billion worldwide. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) had a budget of $250 million and earned $859 million worldwide.

Given that Black Panther 3 will be one of the first films to kick off the Mutant Saga and will feature the return of T’Challa, expectations are extremely high. The film is expected to have a massive budget given Marvel’s soft reset and the importance of establishing the new T’Challa in the MCU.

With the new T’Challa appearing first in Avengers Doomsday, audience familiarity with the character should help Black Panther 3 perform strongly at the box office.

Trailer Review / Public Reaction

Black Panther 3 trailer has not been released yet as the film is in early pre-production. However, public reaction to the news has been massive. The “Recast T’Challa” movement that emerged after Wakanda Forever showed how much fans wanted the character back.

According to insiders My Time To Shine Hello and Daniel RPK, there will be a second Black Panther in Avengers Doomsday. The first will obviously be Shuri as Black Panther – she’s not going anywhere. The second will be the new T’Challa.

Leaked concept art from Secret Wars shows a new Black Panther with Wakanda visible in the background. This has fans extremely excited about the character’s return. The fact that Damson Idris was spotted with the Black Panther cast at a runway show has generated huge buzz and speculation.

Fans are thrilled that Marvel Studios listened to them and is taking the opportunity to reset and ultimately move forward in the MCU with a universe that has virtually everyone. This is Kevin Feige’s chance to use everyone – Iron Man, Captain America, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and now T’Challa Black Panther all together.

OTT Release Date

Black Panther 3

Black Panther 3 OTT release date is not announced yet as the film hasn’t even started production. With shooting scheduled to begin on June 15, 2026, and the film releasing after Avengers: Secret Wars (May 2027), we’re looking at a potential theatrical release in late 2027 or 2028.

Marvel films typically arrive on Disney+ approximately 45-60 days after their theatrical release. So Black Panther 3 would likely stream on Disney+ around 2-3 months after its cinema debut.

Given that this will be one of the first films of the Mutant Saga, Marvel will want to maximize its theatrical run before moving to streaming. Fans should expect a theatrical-first strategy similar to other major MCU releases.

Final Verdict / Rating

Black Panther 3 represents a crucial turning point for the MCU. Marvel Studios is taking their chance, taking advantage of the opportunity to reset and ultimately move forward with everyone. MCU President Kevin Feige has already confirmed they’re going to reset. Some characters are going to make it through. It’s a soft reset, but they’re going to recast Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow.

Kevin Feige wants everyone. He wants X-Men and Fantastic Four with Iron Man and Captain America and the Avengers. We can use Spider-Man in the MCU. We have rights to use Hulk in projects that aren’t solo projects. Of course, he wants a T’Challa Black Panther there as well. Now we have everybody. This is his chance to use everyone.

The fact that the new T’Challa will debut in Avengers Doomsday before Black Panther 3 is smart planning. It allows audiences to connect with the new actor before his solo film. Honestly, not bringing him back would be a huge mistake, especially based on all the reports we’ve heard.

Anticipated Rating: 4.5/5 (based on franchise legacy and fan demand)

This film has the potential to be one of the biggest MCU releases post-Secret Wars, marking a new beginning for both Wakanda and the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Black Panther 3

Conclusion

Black Panther 3: Shadows of Wakanda is shaping up to be a monumental film for the MCU. With Ryan Coogler directing, Denzel Washington joining the cast, and the return of T’Challa (likely played by Damson Idris), the film has everything needed for success. Black Panther 3 shooting starts June 15, 2026, and will release after Avengers: Secret Wars as one of the first films of the Mutant Saga.

The new T’Challa will first appear in Avengers Doomsday, giving audiences a preview before his solo film. While Shuri will continue to play a big role, there’s no doubt the new T’Challa will be the main Black Panther going forward in the new MCU. Marvel Studios listened to fans and is bringing back one of their most important characters.

Black Panther 3 represents Marvel’s commitment to honoring Chadwick Boseman’s legacy while moving forward with the character he brought to life. With Wakanda playing major roles in both Doomsday and Secret Wars, Black Panther 3 will be essential viewing for understanding the next phase of the MCU. The wait until 2027+ will be long, but if Marvel delivers on this promise, it will be worth it!
